The Costa Calida is a 250 km stretch of coast situated between the Costa Blanca and the Costa de Almeria on Spain’s east coast. The world-famous Mar Menor and the strip of land that protects it, La Manga, are located on the Costa Calida. It offers three fabulous 18-hole courses and is situated just 10 minutes’ drive from the south shores of Mar Menor. The club is built within 1400 acres of countryside surrounded by lavish palm trees and citrus groves. Although not the cheapest location for property seekers, La Manga Resort provides a luxurious lifestyle that is perhaps unmatched in Spain, or indeed, in Europe.
Cartagena is a historic fortified port town, with a history that dates back several thousand years. The town has plenty of monuments, museums and fascinating artefacts from various periods throughout history. With plenty to do for all ages, and a great choice of sandy beaches as well as relatively cheap property prices, Cartagena is becoming a popular consideration for those looking to buy a property in Spain.
Like many of the Spanish Costas, the Costa Calida enjoys a very mild climate typical of the Med, and it has around 315 days of sun per year. Even in winter this region enjoys good weather, with temperatures averaging about 17C. Temperatures of around 28C to 30C are experienced during July and August.
The Costa Calida is very accessible and is served by two airports. El Altet near Alicante city is around 1 hour 15 minutes by car from Mar Menor, or San Javier Murcia airport which is much closer for Costa Calida residents as it is just 4 km from the shores of the Mar Menor.
